Safety and policies

Messy is fine. Unsafe never is. Here is how we look after your child, and who to talk to if you have a concern.

Our policies at a glance

Full copies of every policy are at reception and we email them on request.

  • Child protection

Hannah Burke is our Child Protection Lead and Nadia Okafor her deputy. Concerns are recorded the same day and, when needed, reported to the child protection authorities in Dubai, as the UAE Child Rights Law (Wadeema’s Law) requires.

  • First aid

A paediatric first aider on every shift, a stocked kit in each lab room, on the minibus and in the grab bag, and an accident form signed by you at pick-up for anything beyond a plaster.

  • Allergies and medicines

A care plan for every child with an allergy or condition. Our snacks and kit are nut-free. Inhalers and auto-injectors travel with the child in a named pouch.

  • Collection

Children only go home with adults named on their form, including a family driver or nanny if you add them, and we check an Emirates ID the first time. Children never leave alone or in a taxi on their own.

  • Ratios

One leader to eight children in the Lab House, and one to six on the minibus and on trips, with a bus supervisor as well as the driver. Nobody is ever alone with a child behind a closed door.

  • Safe experiments

Every experiment is risk-assessed before it reaches a session. Goggles go on for anything that fizzes, nothing hotter than a cup of tea is used by children, and from May to September nobody plays outside after 10:00.

  • Photos

We only photograph children whose parents have said yes on the form, never use names with photos, and never post anything that shows a school uniform.

  • Behaviour

Kind words and safe hands. We praise effort, use calm reminders, and talk to you early if something isn’t working rather than waiting for it to grow.

If a child isn’t collected

  1. 17:00

We call the parent or carer, then the emergency contacts on the form.

  2. 17:15

The child stays with two leaders, with a drink and a book. A late fee of AED 50 per 15 minutes applies.

  3. 18:00

If we can’t reach anyone, we follow our policy and contact Dubai Police for advice.

Safety questions

How do you handle a serious allergy?

Before the first session Hannah agrees a care plan with you, trains the leaders on your child’s auto-injector and puts a photo card in the register. Food from home is fine if it’s nut-free.

What ratio do you work to?

One leader to eight children in the Lab House, and one to six on the minibus and on trips. A senior leader is always free to step in.

How do I raise a concern?

Talk to Hannah on +971 4 555 0855 or email hello@sproutclub.ae. If your concern is about Hannah, contact Nadia. You can also raise it with KHDA through its website.

Are the experiments really safe?

Yes. We use kitchen-cupboard chemistry, low-voltage batteries and soft rockets, with goggles on. Anything that needs heat or a sharper tool is done by a leader as a demonstration.

Have a question about safety?

Hannah is in the office every weekday from 9:00 and happy to talk it through.
